Rental Options in Dumbarton

Shipping Containers of Grangemouth simplifies the hiring process. We support you from the initial quote to the final collection of the unit. We help you select the most cost-effective solution tailored to your specific project.

Choosing the Right Grade

We offer two primary grades of containers for hire:

  • New (One-Trip) Containers: These units have made just one journey from the factory. They are structurally pristine and aesthetically smart, typically painted blue or green. They are the ideal choice for public-facing sites, schools, or retail environments where appearance is important. They come with a factory-fitted lockbox for maximum security.
  • Used (Wind and Watertight) Containers: These are the industry standard for site storage. While they show cosmetic signs of use such as dents, scrapes, and surface rust, they are guaranteed to be weather-proof. They offer excellent value for construction sites, industrial estates, and agricultural use.

Hire vs Purchase

If you need storage for a temporary project, such as a renovation or seasonal stock holding, hiring is the flexible choice. However, if your requirement extends beyond 18 months, it is often more economical to buy a shipping container in Dumbarton. Our team can provide a cost comparison to help you decide.

Specialised Container Hire

Beyond standard dry units, we supply specialised equipment for specific industries in West Dunbartonshire.

Open Top Containers

We hire Open Top Containers for loads requiring crane access. These units feature a removable tarpaulin roof, allowing you to load heavy machinery or scrap materials from above.

Refrigerated Containers

We lease Refrigerated Containers (reefers) to the food and pharmaceutical sectors. These units maintain precise internal temperatures, which are essential for catering events, festivals, and cold-chain logistics.

Delivery to Dumbarton

We deliver using HIAB vehicles equipped with an onboard crane. This allows us to lift the container from the truck and place it safely on the ground.

Site Access Requirements

Successful delivery requires preparation. The truck needs a hard, level surface to operate. For a 20ft container, we require approximately 60ft of straight-line space to park and extend its stabilising legs. You must ensure the route is free of overhead obstructions, such as power cables or low bridges. If your site in Dumbarton has restricted access, please send us photos so we can assess the delivery.

Ground Preparation

The container must sit on a hard, level surface. Concrete, asphalt, or dry compacted gravel are ideal. We cannot place containers on soft grass or mud, as the delivery vehicle may sink. If the ground is uneven, the container doors may rack and fail to close properly. We recommend using railway sleepers or paving slabs under the four corner posts to level the unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my goods get damp inside the container?

Standard single-skin steel containers can experience condensation ("container rain") when temperatures fluctuate, which is common in Scotland. For hiring, our units are guaranteed wind and watertight, so no rain will get in. However, to prevent internal condensation from affecting sensitive items such as fabric sofas or cardboard archives, we recommend using moisture-trap poles or hiring an insulated container, if available.

Can you place the container on grass or soil?

We strongly advise against placing containers directly on grass or soft soil. Our delivery trucks weigh over 15 tonnes and will likely sink or get stuck, and the container itself may sink over time, causing the doors to rack and jam. You must provide a hard-standing surface (concrete, tarmac, or compacted hardcore). If the ground is slightly uneven, we can place the container on railway sleepers or paving slabs to keep it level and off the ground.

Is there a minimum rental period?

Yes, our standard minimum hire period is typically 4 weeks. This makes hiring a cost-effective solution for short-term projects like home renovations in Dumbarton or seasonal stock holding. After the initial period, the hire usually rolls on a weekly or monthly basis until you are ready to off-hire the unit.

How quickly can you deliver to Dumbarton?

Because our main depot is located in Grangemouth, we can offer fast response times to Dumbarton via the motorway network. Subject to stock availability and truck schedules, we can often arrange delivery within 48 to 72 hours of your order being confirmed.

Do the hire containers come with a lock?

Our hire fleet containers come fitted with a Lockbox (a steel shroud welded to the doors) as standard. This protects the padlock from bolt croppers and drills. We do not usually supply the padlock itself for insurance reasons (you should be the only key holder), but we can sell you a high-security C-type padlock compatible with the lockbox upon delivery.
